Hard to believe that we pass this place on a daily basis but have never before ventured in. Some good reviews on trip advisor however tempted us in last week. It is a strange place to be sure: something of a time shift. If you want to see how Northern Tuscany was 30-40 years ago, this is THE place to go. Nothing has changed from other establishments I remember of that period. That said, the food etc of that time was great and so it is in Alpino. Service ever so friendly. - TimA

We have been visiting this restaurant for the last ten years and it is consistently splendid. The risotto is fantastic - how do they cut the vegetables so small and the pasta is definitely fatto in casa. A lovely atmosphere, always busy so do book ahead. The risotto recipe is featured in Beth Elon's book Tasting Tuscany but the real thing is even better. - Heather and Jim

We have been coming to this restaurant since we first came to the Garfagnana ten years ago. Consistently good with a small but excellent menu in this family run restaurant. Great for practising rudimentary italian in a traditional comfortable restaurant with great value and great craic - Heather

What a find (thanks to TripAdvisor). We had a sumptuous prompt one course feast here today and were delighted. Friendly service, chef came round to say hello, brilliant assortment of bread, clear that passion went into the cooking. Air-conditioned! And very reasonable. Worth the extra 20 metre walk from the tourist traps next to the leaning tower. Did not have wine so cannot comment. - TimA

Superb spot for lunch on the outside terrace. Lovely people. Turn right for Sillico from the main road and follow the windy road for 4km. Superb views across the valley. Outside terrace. No menu. They will tell you what they have and if necessary take you and show you. A trip without lunch here doesn't feel right. - Bob Milsted
