There was a pleasant enough outdoor area, but the evening was not that warm, so we went in. The dining room was spacious and well appointed, paper cloths and napkins and chunky water glasses a bit out of keeping really. The welcome was warm, perhaps because we admitted that a friend of the waiter had recommended it. The food was good: antipasto varied and plentiful; ravioli delicate and correctly cooked. For mains, the bistecca di maiale was absolutely brilliant, soft aromatic and perfectly cooked; the pizza was nice and crispy; but not exceptional. House wine (white) at 8 euros was lovely but a bit pricey. - Tim

Verdeluna has been open for a couple of years now and got off to a shaky start trying to do too much. They now have an excellent limited menu at fixed prices. Lunch at Euros 7.50 is a choice of lasagne including classic, vegetarian and seafood; the dinner menu at Euros 16 for 3 courses and wine is fantastic value with a menu predominantly fish. The owner/chef is from Puglia in the far south so the food is predominantly from that region. As the restaurant can only handle 12-14 people at once it can be like private dining. There are outside tables in the piazza. Excellent quality and value. Service can be a bit erratic on busy nights. - Bargadining

Not yet tried this place, but on the recommendation of a local, we will give it a try next time. - Admin

Despite the two strong recommendations, it has taken us 2 years to try this relatively new restaurant in the centre of Barga. We were not disappointed. We sat on the small terrace at the back of the restaurant. There is another on the street. The cottage cheese and spinach appetizer, warm foccacia and sparkling aperitif were lovely. A light calametti and polpe soup (special of the day) was delightful. Miaile with pear, cheese and a balsamic sauce was perfect. Capelletti of mozzarella in a pancetta and cheese sauce was also very special. A pinot from Collio and two coffees rounded off a delightful meal, which for 53 Euros was also excellent value for money. - Tim

Six of us ate, four adults and two children. Adults all had various delicious pasta dishes followed by steaks, veal and mixed grill. Mario served the biggest fillet steaks I have ever seen for only 8 euros. Kids also had steaks with side orders of fries and salad. All this was washed down with two bottles of house red and two bottles of water. Some of us finished off with perfect creme caramel and the kids devoured icecream with hot chocolate! For the two of us who could not make our minds up, Mario suggested we let chef Franco create something special and he did not disappoint with a medley of desserts being produced. Last but by no means least came the limoncello, ice cold from the freezer to aid digestion of our feast. The bill came to 130 euros and was well worth every cent. The atmosphere is relaxed in this family run business which is in our opinion a Garfagnana gem. Nora and Niall, N. Ireland - Nora
