la Mocchia da Lorenzo is a traditional country Osteria, with good local food, and a great atmosphere. Slightly off the beaten track..it is worth seeking out. The antipasto is gorgeous. Tagliata di manzo cooked on Lorenzo's wood oven is a must. Excellent wines and a great bar - Bargadining

Caffe Lucchesi is the place for your coffee. The pastries are freshly made in the pasticceria by the Lucchesi brothers. Choose from delicious brioche (croissants) fresh fruit tarts and savouries. Always busy (closed Mondays) wth locals stopping off to collect their pastries. Cross the road from the post office, down the steps and you will find Caffe Lucchesi. - Bargadining

l'Osteria is in Piazza Angelio, the heart of Barga Vecchia. In summer the piazza is dominated by a stage for music concerts for all tastes, classical, blues, rock opera, jazz. L'Osteria serves excellent home cooked local dishes in a lively, friendly atmosphere. Try to get a seat out on the deck. An interesting starter is the "pecorino con miele e noce" (sheeps cheese with honey and walnuts) try the "tagliata di manzo con erbete" (sliced grilled steak with herb oil dressing) with the "torte rustiche" (vegetable quiche) The house wine is excellent. - Bargadining

Excellent local home made and fresh food, at great value (Quarter litre of good house wine at just over 1 euro!). Had trout and roast lamb, both done to perfection (05/04/07). And not a plastic table cloth in sight! - Rael
